Volunteer Spotlight - Myrna Eisenlauer

Our volunteers are the hands and feet of Jesus to our neighbors in eastern Polk County. When she’s not running the Eisenlauer Re/Max Revolution Team office, Myrna Eisenlauer is helping our thrift shop, Secondhand Treasures, using her creativity and servant’s heart.

What is your church home? Grace Fellowship in Des Moines.

How long have you been volunteering at Caring Hands?| Since March of 2020.

What inspired you to serve at Caring Hands? I had been volunteering at another non-profit for over 12 years, but they closed volunteer opportunities with the covid shut-down. I was aware of Caring Hands, so called to see if they needed help. I've sold on ebay as a hobby for about 20 years, so the idea of helping with ebay listings was very intriguing.

What do you typically do when you volunteer? It's fun because it's different every week. I love sorting through donations, looking for treasures. I also love the process of researching, photographing and listing on Ebay. I LOVE old jewelry, so I've been sorting through those donations. It's been fun to make jars of treasures - jewelry, small trinkets and miscellaneous small items. As Aime calls them - Jars of Fun! Tell us about a time you were blessed by your work as a volunteer at Caring Hands. It's a blessing to me to be able to use my knowledge, experience & time to serve at Caring Hands and knowing that the work being done is helping local people in our community.

What do you wish people knew about Caring Hands? That they can donate and purchase items at Secondhand Treasures to help fund our local food pantry. And there are so many fun volunteer opportunities!

Tell us one fun fact about you. I've always had a secret desire to be an auctioneer.
