Food Pantry

Altoona & Eastview Locations

Clients are eligible to be served at the Food Pantries once per month.  The Altoona Food Pantry serves clients living in the Southeast Polk School District or within the city limits of Bondurant and Pleasant Hill.  The Eastview Food Pantry serves clients living anywhere in Polk County.  Clients are asked to bring a valid ID and piece of mail for confirmation of residency.

Altoona Pantry (201 Ninth Street N.E.)Hours:

For Food Pantry and Clothes Hanger:

Mondays and Wednesdays 3-5 p.m. Saturday 9-11 a.m.

For Our Daily Bread:

Tuesday, Thursday and Friday 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Eastview  (4101 E 42nd Street Des Moines Hours:

Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 2-5 p.m.

Fridays from 10 a.m.-2 p.m.

Our Daily Bread

Altoona Location

As a supplement to our regular food pantry, Our Daily Bread offers clients the opportunity to receive extra produce, canned goods, and bakery products once a week. The variety and quantity of food varies, depending on availability. Our Daily Bread is open: Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays from 11 a.m.-1 p.m.

Clothes Hanger Temporarily Suspended

Altoona Location

During the Covid-19 Outbreak, the Clothes Hanger ministry will be temporarily suspended.  This will allow Caring Hands' staff and volunteers to focus on keeping the Food Pantry open and operating safely.  Thank you for understanding.


Simple Supper

Adventure Life Church - Altoona

Simple Supper is a community wide invitation to fellowship around a delicious meal. EVERYONE is welcome! Our next supper is Monday, September 27th, 5:30 to 6:30 PM at Adventure Life Church: 1700 8th St SW, Altoona. The beef burger meal will be provided by Christ the King Church. Dining in is open, but there is an option for carry out. Masks are required when not eating or drinking.
