Meet Board Member Sharon VanderSchel

Our board of directors ensures we are on the right path as an organization. Sharon VanderSchel is a service-minded board member who believes in using her gifts to help her community.

What is your church home? Radiant Church in Pleasant Hill.

When did you first join the Caring Hands board of directors?

I joined the board in August of 2021.

What inspired you to serve at Caring Hands?

I became involved with Caring Hands many years ago putting together school supplies for kids and Christmas gifts for families when Central Place was in existence. I come from a family that puts a high emphasis on community involvement and service. As a Christian I was drawn to the mission of Caring Hands.

What do you hope Caring Hands accomplishes in the next 6 months?

I hope that Caring Hands will expand its impact in our community. We do a great job of meeting scarcity needs and filling the gaps when people find themselves in hard circumstances. I would like to see us partner or provide empowering resources that have a longer effect on a person’s future.

What do you wish people knew about Caring Hands?

Caring Hands works hard to involve all people to be involved in building our community. We network churches, organizations, businesses, and individuals to work together

to be an encouragement to others. It’s really a great example of all kinds of people working together for a common goal. Caring Hands helps anyone who is willing to play a role in our community’s success.

Tell us one fun fact most people don't know about you.

I was voted most humorous in my high school class. I also married my high school sweetheart 46 years ago.
