Caring Hands
Mobilizing Compassion
Caring Hands Outreach Center is a network of Christian Churches and community partners serving our neighbors in eastern Polk County. We operate a food pantry in Altoona and another in east Des Moines. Because we know our neighbors require more than just food, we also administer our Uplift Program, which offers limited assistance with utilities, rent, clothing, and household items. We also run a thrift store in Altoona, Secondhand Treasures. Sales from our thrift store support our food pantry and Uplift Program and provide job training for differently-abled individuals.
By the Numbers
Food insecurity is an issue that impacts over 300,000 Iowans each year. With the help of our partner churches, community partners, and volunteers, Caring Hands works tirelessly to create a lasting impact in eastern Polk County. Here's a glimpse of the impact we made in 2021.
