Volunteer Spotlight - Barb Hoehne

Our volunteers are the heart of Caring Hands Outreach Center. Barb Hoehne spent 40 years as an Executive Secretary at Nationwide. After retirement, she wanted to stay active in the community. Barb volunteers in multiple ways every week. We are very grateful for all she does to help our organization run smoothly!

Where is your church home?

Norwalk Methodist Church

What inspired you to serve at Caring Hands?

After I retired, I needed something to do. I learned about Caring Hands from a friend, and I've enjoyed every minute of it!

What do you typically do when you volunteer?

I volunteer weekly at Our Daily Bread, and I train new volunteers at our monthly onboarding sessions. Getting to know new people and helping match their passion with our needs is a pleasure. I also work with Ned on various projects.

What do you wish people knew about Caring Hands?

It's too bad that more people don't know that the food pantry is just a part of what we do. Caring Hands is so much more.

Tell us one fun fact about you.

I've walked on the Matanuska Glacier in Alaska!
